And before you tell me I’m crazy, either listen to what I have to say or GTFO.

Every time I verbalize just surface-level expressions of fears surrounding this issue, I am immediately met with invalidation, minimization, and a general inability to even consider the possibility that this could happen.

In the combined trans, nonbinary, and intersex community, we are discussing this as a legitimate and likely possibility, and our fears are based in facts that we aren’t even given the opportunity to voice.

Fact #1: Genocide does happen. Period.

People say that it ‘s unlikely, that it’s not going to happen. They will say this even up until it is literally happening to them, until it is too late. This happened to real Jews during the Shoah (you probably know it as the Holocaust). THEY DIED.

Denial is one of the most powerful mechanisms that enables genocide to happen.

This is why I refuse to deny its possibility. Why I refuse to deny warning signs I see in front of me right now, and why you should too.

Please keep reading.

And please. Stop brushing genocide off when it’s brought up.

Heed Early Warning Signs

My ancestors died in the Armenian genocide roughly a century ago, so genocide is a topic that I’ve thought about a LOT. The fact that it impacted my family makes it feel more real to me, in the same way that it feels more real to ethnic Jews. We don’t even have physical records of our family history. They were literally destroyed. The names were physically erased from history.

Over the last 6-ish years, I have watched with increasing unease as patterns from Weimar Germany’s transition into the Third Reich have begun to show themselves in Trump’s America.

• Weimar Germany/2010-2020 America

  • Increasingly progressive attitudes and lawmaking
  • Greater freedom in gender roles
  • Growing acceptance, education, and visibility of LGBTQIA+ identities
  • Decrease in racist attitudes and discrimination
  • Increased acceptance of disability and access to healthcare
• Early Third Reich Germany/2020-2026 America

  • Autocratic government posing as a democracy
  • Rolling back of rights affecting all marginalized groups
  • Imposed dyadic gender binary
  • LGBTQIA+ individuals return to the closet and detransition for their own safety
  • Conversion therapy is actively practiced
  • Healthcare access becomes more challenging
  • War and genocide are openly praised in public
  • Specific marginalized groups are marked as threats to the government

This isn’t even the full analysis (see “Further Reading” for sources and additional information). I kept it brief so as not to overwhelm. The point is, THE SIGNS ARE HERE and PEOPLE ARE IGNORING THEM just like they did last time, and every other time before that.

I’m not trying to fear-monger, though I definitely wrote this in a depressed, anxious state. I’m trying to build preventative community. To protect myself. To protect my fellow intersex, nonbinary, and trans friends.

I hope to God I’m wrong, but the fact is, we need to acknowledge that damage is already being done.

The groundwork has been laid.

I’ll explain. But first, some context about me.

I’m a nonbinary pansexual person who was born intersex. I don’t fit the biological definition of male or female, and I never did. It is written into my genetics. I can’t change that. Project 2025 can’t change that.

And yet...for the purposes of setting the groundwork for genocide…it does. Genocide is a form of erasure, and the erasure has already begun. Project 2025 erases nonbinary and intersex identities from “legal fact.” The removal of evidence is an essential part of any genocide operation evidence. It’s the reason there are so few records left of Armenian Genocide victims.

Ok, but say all this prep work doesn’t actually mount to full scale violence. Say something mercifully comes to the rescue and puts a halter on the building pressure. Does this mean that trans, intersex, and non-binary Americans are out of the woods?

Unfortunately not. Devastatingly, Project 2025 has legal implications that reenforce multiple forms of systemic oppression on these groups. For example, because Intersex is no longer recognized as a legal sex, we’re likely to see an increase in cases of IGM/CIMI along with medicalized violence and suicide risk. In the trans and non-binary communities, decreased access to gender affirming care and increased discrimination will likely increase the overall risk of suicide as well.

If the government starts using AI to identify queer people for reeducation or deletion, I have no protection. My data indicates that I’m queer from the beginning. Frankly, if I had the funds to leave America right now, I would.

This may sound bleak and yeah you’re right, it is. But it’s our reality.

All this rambling was really just to beg you all to take this seriously.

If you consider yourself an ally

Listen to us. Stand up for is. Protect us. Please. I don’t beg often, but I am begging now.

We cannot do this alone. The systemic barriers against us are immense, but with your help, we have a chance at survival, and maybe even happiness.

Support your lgbtqiia+ friends who are struggling with their mental health. Help prevent queer suicides. Ensure your loved ones are not isolated. Remind them that the facists are wrong.

If you get your news from anywhere, get it from an unbiased source like Ground News, which will show you your biases as well as coverage blind spots. If you’re like me, you may discover that even Ground news has blind spots (such as intersex issues).

If you’re intersex/non-binary/trans

Be even more vigilant of your safety than usual. Don’t assume anything labeled inclusive is actually safe. The government is now sponsoring studies recruiting trans people. Therapists are legally allowed to practice conversion therapy.

Stick together and support each other. They want us to isolate ourselves out of fear so that our support networks fall apart. Keep strengthening one another and building solidarity.

Intersex people, support your trans siblings.

Perisex trans people, support your intersex siblings.

We are stronger in solidarity. They want us infighting. They want us doing oppression olympics. Don’t let them manipulate us. And remember, the facists aren’t right about us. What they’re doing is morally wrong.
